Oregon Trail Elementary- Helping students reach for the stars in math skills!

Mission Statement:
50 in a minute is a school-wide program which begins at kindergarten and continues to sixth grade. Students are timed on appropriate grade level math computation skills for one minute. This program is based on the work of Dr. Steve Smith, a former Twin Falls elementary principal. It is based on the theory that if a student is able to complete 50 computation facts in one minute, the retrieval of these facts becomes automatic, thereby increasing a student's overall proficiency in mathematics. Our school's goal is to have 72.5 percent of all students achieve Ribbon Winner status for the 2005-2006 school year.

Overview:
Upon completion of each competency level the students can earn the following awards in recognition of their achievement:
    Grade Level Goals - Ribbon
    Master Level Goals - Medal
    Einstein Level Goals - Trophy

Ribbons are awarded at the completion of a student's Grade level goals. Medals and trophies will be presented to students who reach the Master and Einstein level goals at an end of the school year awards assembly.
